A Summer to Sip or Soak

As a believer, it is very admirable and praiseworthy to be known as a man or woman of the Word. It is an incredibly honoring trait which does not come easy. It requires great humility, and it does not come apart from hard and lengthy work. No one is endued with great biblical literacy and faithfulness; they must literally work for it faithfully.

One who receives the Word with all eagerness (Acts 17:11), who holds fast to the Word of LIfe (Philippians 2:16), accurately handles the Word of God (2 Timothy 2:15), and who is trained in the words of [our] faith and of good doctrine” (1 Timothy 4:6) is both rare, yet indispensable to a godly life, godly marriages and families, and healthy and holy local church expressions. No one grows, matures, or is sanctified apart from being washed in God’s Word. And you cannot be washed unless you “let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16). And as it dwells in you richly, it will spill over into others in rich and relevant ways.

One of the ways Table Rock would like to encourage us to dwell richly in God’s Word is by being well-read. Of all the ways to intake the BIble, reading God’s Word is embedded in them all. Reading is required to meditate on God’s Word, pray on God’s Word, memorize God’s Word, study God’s Word, and apply God’s Word. Reading is the one constant when it comes to receiving God’s special revelation. So, we want to invite you into our Summer ‘Sip and Soak’ reading plan through the New Testament. We would like to encourage our body to read large swaths of Scripture this summer so that we may be men and women who are governed, grown, and groomed by God’s Word. May we all join together and trust God to meet us through His Word and to meet us through His people who are reading his Word and being richly supplied with all wisdom. So, grab your Bible, (or buy a new paperback version to serve your goal) and commit to reading with us day-by-day, week-by-week, as we are washed and won over by God’s enduring Word.

Don Straka has created this wonderful 3-month reading plan, and Greer Wymond has beautifully designed it that it may grow and groom us together as we all read at the same pace. May God use this plan, the symbol study method printed on it, and our practice of it to make us men and women of the Word together.
