Who We Are

Our Short History

“Christ founded the church, purchased it with his blood and intimately identifies himself with it (Matt 16:18; Acts 9:4; 20:28).” In this sense, Table Rock Church began well before 2018. But this local church did have a day when we opened our doors. First those doors were homes around Boise. Doors opened so our small groups could meet during the week. When Sunday morning came, our groups met at other churches to both learn from them as well as to have a place to fellowship that morning. Our church plant had not yet rooted itself to a time and place until Easter Saturday and Sunday 2018.

Saturday night we all piled into the Eagy’s living room, appointed elders and covenant together as members. Table Rock Church had officially begun. The next day, our first Sunday, felt like walking for the first time. We forgot the key to the trailer that held all our supplies, so we cut the lock. Despite practicing our setup, we still stumbled around running cables up, down, and around. We set up chairs, but kept tweaking the design. Yet after all the tripping about we sang together, heard the word preached, took communion, and cared for each other as the church. Table Rock Church had officially begun.

We call those days, “the church in a box” years. For the first two years, we met at the Train Depot so we had to load everything in and out our boxy trailer. Starbucks hosted most of our team meetings and every event had to find a home to meet at. Sure we didn’t have a place to call our church home, but we knew the church didn’t need a building. God called his people the church.

Nevertheless, we all knew the gain that would come from not having to set up speakers and chairs each week. We knew reprieve would come if we could leave the trailer in storage because we had a basement to house all our gear. Though we loved the Train Depot, when the opportunity came to do a church share with Christian Life Fellowship off of Longmont Ave, we made the transition.

We began by sharing the space — Table Rock met from 9:00 am – 10:30 am, Christian Life Fellowship from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. Then at the beginning of 2022 Table Rock Church closed on the purchase of our facility from them. Christian Life Fellowship will forever be a part of Table Rock Church’s story. As they began to dissolve as a church, they had a heart to see the building carry on as a beacon for the gospel. They approached us about purchasing the building, but as a church plant, that type of purchase was well beyond our budget. The conversation would have ended there, but Christian Life Fellowship offered to sell us the building far below market price. God has been so kind to our church through Christian Life Fellowship. Because of their generosity, we have a building that has permanent pews, speakers that turn on with the flip of a switch, and a soundboard that doesn’t need to be carted back to a trailer. In 2022, Table Rock bought our first home.

We are still a young church. Though we may be out of the infant stage of church planting, we are only now starting to toddle around. When you come to Table Rock, you will see that we do not have the polished rhythms of a church that has existed for decades. We still have many firsts to experience. But we love being a church plant, and we love that God has cared for us through these beginning stages.

Our Values

Because of our beliefs and convictions, there are specific things we value that will shape our church culture and practice. These are our values as a church.

  • We desire all that we do in our Sunday gatherings be centered on the person, work, and promise of Jesus by beholding and reflecting the glory of Christ. This means our singing, praying, preaching, fellowshiping, and receiving the means of grace in the ordinances are centered on Christ and His glorious gospel that we believe is the power of Salvation for those who believe.

  • We believe a direct result of the life-changing power of the gospel is that our hearts and affections have been captured by the object of our faith. Therefore, we believe our wholehearted pursuit in this life is joy in Christ and would express that in what some have called “Christian Hedonism” or as articulated in the Westminster Confession of Faith: our chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

  • The Bible is at the core of everything we do. It guides our small groups, takes center stage in our Sunday services, informs our discipleship, and shapes our beliefs and practices. We cherish and trust the Bible as the central authority in our church and in our lives.

  • As expressed in our mission statement, we are committed to obeying Jesus's call in Matthew 18:19-20 to “go and make disciples.”  Whether praying for and engaging with someone who does not yet treasure Christ or seeking to sharpen and be sharpened alongside fellow believers, we are a church committed to going and to growing — especially through one-on-one and small group discipleship.

  • Motivated by the gospel, we are a people who actively extend hospitality by opening wide the doors of our church and our homes. Whether in formal gatherings or personal spaces, we embrace a culture of caring well for one another, warmly welcoming the outsider, eagerly inviting others into our community, and letting our love point others to the great love of Christ.
